The million-dollar IEU difference

21 October, 2024

Our union has returned over a million dollars in member settlement and compensation payments in the past year, as IEU Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Rebecca Sisson writes.

The numbers don’t lie – there are a million reasons to be an IEU member.

A total of $1,062,948 in payments and settlements were returned to IEU members in the last year.

Key cases included:

  • $81,000 in historical underpayments recovered from an employer
  • $40,000 in statutory compensation to a member for a work-related injury
  • $65,000 in compensation following an unfair dismissal
  • $21,000 in a redundancy payment
  • $16,000 in compensation via a Fair Work Commission (FWC) case settlement

A key benefit of union membership is ensuring you’re paid fairly at work.

Clearly employers aren’t as motivated to check employees’ pay packets and workplace rights in fine detail.

Expert industrial services team
IEU membership provides no hidden fee access to expert workplace and industrial advice from our experienced team of Industrial Officers and Industrial Services Officers.

There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to dealing with member cases.

Our industrial team reviews each case in detail to determine the most effective course of action.

The team understands that dealing with alleged underpayment or the denial of your working rights is a stressful time for anyone to navigate.

Our union alleviates that stress by ensuring members feel supported every step of the way, from investigating the issue to negotiating a satisfactory settlement.

This level of care simply cannot be provided by other organisations who charge costly legal fees or seek to retain a large portion of any settlement.

Protecting your career
When it comes to protecting your career, there’s no better value for money than being a union member.

IEU-QNT membership fees are fully tax-deductible, making it even more affordable to protect your career.

In addition to expert advice and support on workplace issues, being an IEU member means protecting your assets in the event of a workplace incident through our union’s comprehensive professional indemnity insurance.

Membership increases your advocacy at work through the support of your IEU-QNT Chapter Delegates and IEU Organisers and secures your financial future through higher wages and better working conditions.

You have 24/7 access to member-only resources, news and more through MyIEU to assist with workplace and professional issues.

Free member-only professional development, training and events also enable you to increase your skills, knowledge and professional connections.
