School Officer Day

School Officer Day, celebrated annually on the second Wednesday in June, is our opportunity to celebrate the vital role support staff play in education and how our union is working to ensure they have careers they can count on.

In 2023 School Officer Day will be held on Wednesday, 14 June.

The support staff difference

Schools simply would not function without school support staff.

From laboratory technicians, teacher aides, grounds staff and administrative staff to cleaning staff, library staff and IT specialists, support staff are dedicated  professionals.

Our union understands the specific challenges facing support staff – particularly in regard to classification, contract  arrangements, wages and recognition – which is why we’ve been campaigning for Careers You Can Count On.

Celebrating School Officer Day 2022

IEU Chapters marked School Officer Day (Wednesday, 8 June) with celebrations recognising the difference school officers and services staff members make to our schools and to education.

IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke said that school officers had been an essential part of our union for over thirty years.

“We’ve achieved significant wins to working conditions and wages since establishing the very first School Officer Award in the 1990s,” Mr Burke said.

“We’re still fighting for better conditions and recognition today through our Careers You Can Count On campaign, which aims to enshrine an updated set of classification scales and associated remuneration to better reflect contemporary school officer roles…
