Presentation evening highlights
Talented students impressed the reviewers at the Awards for Excellence in Art Design.
The Awards, held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre in Brisbane, attracted hundreds of entries from students and teachers across the Queensland and Northern Territory non-government education sector, with entrants submitting artwork responding to the theme of ‘Reflections’.
Attendees heard an engaging lecture from guest speaker James Hillier (aka Nordacious), a Brisbane-based visual artist and illustrator whose work moves between popular culture, politics, portraiture and queer storytelling.
Hillier reflected on the highlights and challenges of his career as an artist.

Presentation evening highlights
During the competition’s presentation evening, held at the Queensland Multicultural Centre on 5 August, award recipients were presented with certificates and book prizes generously donated by event sponsor Penguin Random House Australia, before first prize recipients read their winning pieces to the audience.
Attendees were also treated to an engaging lecture by guest speaker Sita Walker, a Courier-Mail People’s Choice Award winning memoirist, who shared insights and highlights from her career.
