A member has received $6,000 in backpay after their employer recognised they had been taking on higher duties.
The school officer member working in the Queensland Catholic sector had been undertaking a range of duties previously performed by a senior colleague who left the school.
The member contacted our union’s industrial team for support in raising the matter after the school leadership team was reluctant to recognise the performance of higher duties.
Contention over higher duties
With our union’s support, the school officer member detailed the higher duties they had taken on over a period of some months following the departure of their senior colleague.
Those duties included coordinating and managing meetings with parents and other stakeholders to keep the department running smoothly.
Before their colleague’s departure, the member was not responsible for these tasks.
