IEU support secures backpay for isolated teachers

12 February, 2026

A number of Queensland Catholic school teachers will receive substantial backpay after an IEU member identified they were being underpaid the Isolated Teachers Assistance Scheme (ITAS) allowance.

The IEU teacher member contacted our union for advice after completing the ITAS form when commencing a role at their new school and noticing discrepancies between the Catholic Education form and the form used at their new school in relation to eligibility for the payments.
