Our union has partnered with the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) to develop a Joint Position Statement on minimum expectations when engaging with Permission to Teach (PTT) employees.
IEU-QNT Senior Research Officer and member of our union’s Education Committee Dr Adele Schmidt said the Joint Position Statement – Industrial Guidelines for Permission to Teach Employees were created in response to the growing number of PTT applications in Queensland in recent years.
“Reports from the Queensland College of Teachers show the number of PTT applications approved to fill staffing vacancies in schools grew 23.2% from 2023 to 2024 and have stabilised with 2.5% growth from 2024 to 2025,” Dr Schmidt said.
“The data also shows that in 2025, 97% of persons granted a PTT were enrolled in an approved Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program and, by the end of the year, approximately 29% of those individuals were granted provisional registration,” she said.
