New short course syllabuses available in Queensland schools

26 October, 2026

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has released two new short course syllabuses for senior students.

Last year, our union reported the development of a critical thinking senior short course syllabus and can now confirm its official release for schools to deliver from 2027.

The syllabus aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to respond to contemporary challenges such as artificial intelligence and the rapid proliferation of information.

The course will enhance students’ ability to reflect on the quality of their thinking and the thinking of others.

This expands on the critical thinking already emphasised in all subjects.
