Professional standards for teachers reviewed for first time

1 June, 2026

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) will be reviewed for the first time since their introduction over 15 years ago.

IEU-QNT members are encouraged to have their say during the review consultation period beginning next month.

Review provides significant opportunity

IEU-QNT Research Officer Adele Schmidt said the review was significant given the changes to the professional landscape since the standards were introduced.

“The APST are central to the profession, impacting everything from initial teacher education, progression to higher classification to registration and certified professional development,” Adele said.

“Listening to teachers’ views is critical to ensure an updated set of standards that are fit-for-purpose for both the current professional landscape and the future of the profession,” she said.
