New critical thinking course looks towards post-AI curriculum

10 June, 2025

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) has committed to developing a new Critical Thinking Short Course syllabus, representing a bold step towards a post-AI curriculum.

The QCAA Board endorsed Critical Thinking Short Course is still in the early stages of creation, with a subject design brief in development, to be followed by a syllabus design brief.

According to the QCAA, the course development is driven by a need to equip students with the knowledge and skills seen as assets in post-school pathways in a post-AI world.

It also aligns with a key competency identified in the QCAA’s 21st Century Skills for Senior Curriculum and the critical thinking general capability under the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).
