Divisive criticism of Australia’s world-leading superannuation scheme shows exactly why the current system must be defended.
Politicians from opposition parties including the Liberal party Senator Andrew Bragg and One Nation leader Pauline Hanson want to see an end to the current superannuation system.
Ms Hanson said universal superannuation should be abandoned, while Mr Bragg said the current system was a “policy failure”.
Universal 12% super
Under the current system, most workers receive a minimum of 12% superannuation.
Many IEU-QNT members receive 12.75% superannuation under an enhanced entitlement, which has existed in IEU-negotiated collective agreements for many years.
