An IEU member who suspected they were being underpaid in their role has been awarded backpay after our union’s intervention.
The member, employed as a teacher at an English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) college, contacted our union for assistance after suspecting something was amiss.
IEU Industrial Officer Mark Moorhead said as part of their role, the teacher also conducted ‘study tours’ with ELICOS students.
“The employer was paying our member at a lower rate of pay for the study tours, their justification being that ELICOS teaching was not involved on the tours,” Mark said.
