Teacher aides facing mandatory full-time positions until IEU intervention

9 February, 2026

Part-time teacher aides at a Gold Coast independent school were set to be forced into full-time roles – until IEU intervention stopped the move.

The teacher aides, employed on a continuing part-time basis, received the news at the end of 2025 with the changes to take effect from the 2026 school year.

The employer claimed the move would provide greater continuity and support for students.

After receiving reports from affected members, our union took immediate action and wrote to the employer to assert members’ rights.
