Time to rethink Initial Teacher Education (ITE) frameworks

The Initial Teacher Education (ITE) landscape has changed rapidly in recent years, with frameworks underpinning the system failing to keep pace.

ITE frameworks include tertiary teacher education and professional experiences (practicum/“prac”, internships and Permission to Teach engagements), as well as teachers’ early years of mentorship in the classroom.

Persistent teacher shortages and poor completion rates of teaching degrees demonstrate the importance of overhauling current frameworks.
