$10k backpay win for member on parental leave

10 March, 2026

An IEU member on parental leave received backpay of $10,000 after our union stepped in to resolve an employer underpayment.

Confusion over school holiday entitlements

The underpayment occurred due to confusion over whether paid parental leave was exclusive of school holidays.

The employer believed it was not exclusive of school holidays, meaning the member needed to use paid parental leave over vacation periods.
