Teachers’ voice central to any education agency reform

11 September, 2025

The announcement by federal Education Minister Jason Clare of a review of federal government teacher and education agencies is a critical opportunity to restore teacher voice to the heart of policy and the education system.

IEUA Federal Secretary Brad Hayes said the government’s proposal to consolidate the work of the four education agencies – The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and Education Services Australia (ESA) – under a new, coordinated authority, the Teaching and Learning Commission (TLC) warrants careful consideration.

“Our school leaders, teachers and school communities strive every day to deliver the highest quality education,” Brad said.
