Member maintains employment after redundancy scare

3 February, 2025

An IEU member has maintained their employment after an attempt to make them redundant without redeployment.

When the employer commenced a redundancy process, our member indicated that, in the event of a redundancy, they would like to be redeployed to another teaching position at the school.

Unfortunately, the member then faced the worst-case scenario: their position was being made redundant, and there was no possible redeployment.

IEU industrial team intervenes

Our union’s industrial team reminded the employer of its responsibilities during a redundancy process, including the need to properly consult with and consider redeployment opportunities for affected staff.
