$13k back pay for wrongly classified teacher

22 November, 2022

An IEU member has secured more than $13,000 in back pay and is now correctly classified after our union’s intervention with the employer.

The Queensland-based teacher member contacted our union for assistance after suspecting they were incorrectly classified and being underpaid after switching from the state system to the non-government education sector.

IEU-QNT Industrial Services Officer Ben Ellis said the member had previously worked as a teacher for Education Queensland and the new employer in our sector had wrongly classified the member upon appointment.
