An agenda for the future of teaching

13 June, 2022

A new government brings new opportunities for real change in the teaching profession and ensuring the voices of teachers are at the heart of those changes, writes IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke.

As the voice of members, our union looks forward to having the concerns of members heard when it comes to the professional issues we face – as teachers and as education professionals.

It is our profession, and our union will continue to advocate to all levels of government, and all political parties, for a better future for our members, our students and our school communities.

A plan for the profession

The new federal government have committed to giving high-achieving prospective teachers up to $12k per year for entering the profession.

High school students with an ATAR of 80 or higher would receive $10k per year for the length of their teacher education course, and an extra $2k per year if the student commits to teaching in a regional area.
