Supermarket giant ALDI will pay $55 million to thousands of current and former staff as part of a settlement of underpayment claims pursued by the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA).
The SDA alleged ALDI store and warehouse workers employed between 2017 and 2023 were directed to work outside of their allocated shift without pay.
The settlement comes despite ALDI previously dismissing the retail workers’ union estimates it had shortchanged workers by $10 million as “significantly inflated”.
