$11,000 backpay for member after conversation with organiser

4 September, 2025

It pays to check as one IEU member recently discovered after a conversation with their organiser led to a reclassification and $11,000 in backpay.

After speaking with their IEU Organiser, a teacher member in the Queensland Catholic sector realised an incorrect classification on appointment was significantly impacting their take-home pay.

An employer payroll error resulted in the member being appointed to a classification point three steps below where they should have been, based on their qualifications and experience.

The difference in annual salary between that rate of pay and the correct classification level was nearly $20,000.
