The 2024 OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) results paint a disturbing picture of the reality of work for Australian teachers and school leaders.
The global survey saw 280,000 teachers and school leaders from 55 countries, including over 6000 Australians, share insights into their working conditions, professional development opportunities and realities of the modern classroom.
IEU-QNT Assistant Secretary Nicole Kapernick said the survey confirmed what IEU members have warned of for years.
“The survey shows there are endemic issues in Australian schools, including teacher shortages significantly higher than the OECD average and widespread staff safety concerns stemming from physical injuries and verbal abuse from students,” Nicole said.
