Shameful sackings devastate higher education sector

3 June, 2025

More than 260 higher education jobs will be cut as part of a proposed restructure at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ).

The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) said the move will force just under 20% of the university’s workforce out of work.

Further job losses have been threatened if voluntary redundancy targets are not met.

Sackings devastate local community

NTEU UniSQ Branch President Professor Andrea Lamont-Mills said there had been a shocking lack of transparency from leadership over the sackings.

“Slashing 20 per cent of the workforce will have devastating impacts for our local communities who deserve access to the highest quality teaching and support,” Professor Lamont-Mills said.
