Our union has welcomed the federal government’s action to strengthen protections against the non-consensual sharing of sexually explicit material, including AI-generated deepfakes, following an increase in image-based abuse targeting school staff and students.
The Criminal Code Amendment (Deepfake Sexual Material) Bill 2024 will impose serious criminal penalties on those who share sexually explicit material without consent, including material that is digitally created using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
