IEU action stops employer from accessing unnecessary health history

28 April, 2022

An employer’s attempt to seek an IEU member’s medical information from their treating practitioner has been stopped thanks to support from our union.

IEU-QNT Industrial Services Officer Jill McKeon said the member who had been absent from work due to illness for some time, sought to return to work this year.

“At that point her employer advised they needed information about the member’s capacity to return to her duties and sought to have her sign a medical authority form”, Jill said.

“That authority would have provided consent for the employer to seek medical information from her treating practitioner.

“The member was rightly uncomfortable with this direction and immediately sought our advice.”
