Members celebrate the IEU difference

3 May, 2022

IEU members joined tens of thousands of union members from across Queensland and the Northern Territory over the long weekend to celebrate Labour Day/ May Day 2022.

This year, members took part in events held in Alice Springs, Brisbane, Bundaberg, Cairns, Darwin, Ipswich, Mackay, Maryborough, Toowoomba, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville to celebrate the difference our union makes as well as the change our broader union movement makes for the Australian community.

Labour Day/May Day is a significant day for the union movement each year as we gather to acknowledge and celebrate the struggle, collective action and strength shown by our fellow unionists throughout history.

This year was particularly important for members as we campaign for more secure work, to restore a fair and balanced bargaining system, and for workplace laws and federal education funding that protects our early childhood education sector, in the upcoming federal election.
