Everyone should be safe at work

14 October, 2021

All workers have a right to be safe at work, not just from physical injuries but also from work-related psychological injuries and poor mental health.

Mental health continues to be the fastest growing challenge to the safety of working people in their workplaces according to a new study conducted for the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).

17% of workers surveyed said they had experienced mental health injuries as a result of their work, with 10% saying they were regularly bullied.

The survey showed that young workers and those at the frontline of the pandemic, are the most at risk: 30% of workers aged under 25 years old said they had suffered a mental health problem due to work and more than 40% of education and health workers reported regular exposure to stress.
