Shameful anniversary for delayed respect at work protections

9 September, 2025

This week marked one year since Queensland’s Respect at Work amendments passed through parliament, yet they still await implementation due to delays by the Crisafulli government.

On 10 September 2024, the Respect at Work and Other Matters Amendment Act was passed.

The act represented the most significant changes to anti-discrimination laws since their inception in the 1990s.

The amendment act placed a positive duty on employers to take all reasonable steps to prevent sex-based harassment and introduced discrimination protections for survivors of family and domestic violence and other vulnerable community members.
