Middle Leader Professional Standards trial underway

25 October, 2023

The next stage of development is underway for the Middle Leader Professional Standards, with trials having commenced in Queensland schools during Term 4.

IEU-QNT Research Officer Adele Schmidt said the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) had begun a partnership with the Queensland Department of Education to develop and trial professional standards for middle leaders.

“Middle leaders play a pivotal role in leading teaching, learning and student support; however, there is often a lack of clarity or inconsistency regarding their roles, expectations, titles, levels of support and opportunities for career progression,” Dr Schmidt said.
