Kindy employees left with no redundancy provisions

16 March, 2022

IEU members in the early childhood education sector need to be on alert, after multiple employers have tried to, and in some cases succeeded in, removing important working rights from collective agreements, particularly redundancy payment provisions.

IEU Organiser Nicole Lakidis said there seemed to be an emerging trend of employers attempting to remove redundancy provisions as a quick cost-saving measure.

“Removing provisions such as redundancy is a slap in the face for the hard-working teachers and assistants in community kindy,” she said.

“It means the provisions revert to the Award and because community kindergartens are usually a business of less than 15 employees, they are not obligated to provide a redundancy severance package.
