Equal Rights Equals Respect

Sweeping industrial changes, including a higher bar for workplace psychological injury claims, have been revealed in the Queensland government’s Industrial Relations and Other Amendments Bill 2026.

The bill has serious impacts for workers.

A higher test for the approval of workplace psychological injury claims means work needs to be the “major significant” contributing factor.

Employers would be able to request workers’ compensation claim history as part of the job application process (where workers consent in writing).

Changes to time limits will reduce the deadline for relevant workers’ compensation review applications from three months to 20 business days.

A strong voice of opposition is the only way to secure changes to the proposed legislation.

Queensland Unions has launched a Protect QLD Workers petition urging the government to reconsider the plan. Workers are also encouraged to email their state MP to share their concerns.
