Queensland government attacks workplace health and safety laws

11 February, 2026

Our union has condemned the Crisafulli government’s shameful plan to scrap critical protections and weaken Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation in its latest attack on the rights and conditions of Queensland workers.

As part of the changes, the Crisafulli government intends to water down existing WHS laws, repealing the mandatory nature of Codes of Practice under the WHS Act and replacing them with weakened national model WHS Codes.

This diminishes significant reforms achieved by unions, including management and prevention of psychosocial hazards employer obligations.
