A member has avoided an employer’s attempt to schedule an unpaid induction day following support from our union’s industrial team.
The member was moving between employers in the non-government sector when their new employer told them that a day of unpaid induction, prior to the start of their contract, was required.
The member immediately reached out to our union’s industrial team to check their rights in relation to the request.
Directed duties must occur in paid time
An IEU Industrial Services Officer promptly advised that where employers are directing staff to engage in an induction process, it needs to occur in paid time.
