Our union is working to ensure the protection and security of workers’ data by employers in the wake of increasing data breaches and cyber-attacks in our sector and the Australian community.

IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke said data protection was critical to ensuring employees are safe at work.

“As we have seen just in the last 12 months, the prevalence of data breaches has almost become an everyday occurrence.

“That’s why our union is taking steps to protect employees through explicit provisions in our collective agreements,” he said.

Mr Burke said that a specific clause to protect employees regarding their data had been tabled as part of current Queensland Catholic school collective bargaining negotiations.
