Union voice remains strong for 50 years of teacher registration

20 July, 2021

2021 is a milestone year for education in Queensland, as the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) celebrates 50 years since the establishment of the Board of Teacher Education and the beginning of the development of a teacher registration framework in Queensland.

Significantly, Queensland was the first state in Australia to develop a cross-sector system for the registration of teachers, with the QCT’s predecessor institution (The Board of Teacher Education) holding their first meeting on 16 June 1971.

Unions pivotal in establishing process

Our union, along with the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU), played an early and pivotal role in the establishment of teacher registration in Queensland.
