IEU membership has made the difference in the face of an increasing number of employers who have refused safe work for pregnant employees.

IEU-QNT Industrial Services Officer Michael Featherstone said safe job protections provided critical support for pregnant employees whose health has been at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our union has seen many instances – particularly early this year – where pregnant staff had been advised by their medical practitioners that they could not safely perform their usual work,” Michael said.

“For example, some members had received medical advice that face-to-face teaching could not be undertaken safely due to increased COVID-19 infection risks during pregnancy.
