IEU members should be aware of a number of key changes in the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA)’s recently released new Australian Curriculum.
Although the new curriculum is in no way radical or transformational, it has been designed to be more manageable for teachers and better suited to the needs of students.
Compulsory consent education welcomed
IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke said our union welcomed some of the key changes, including the decluttering of a previously significantly overcrowded curriculum and strengthening the explicit teaching of consent and respectful relationships in age-appropriate ways.
“The introduction of consent and respectful relationships education to the new curriculum is a positive change and a necessary part of contemporary education, which will hopefully go a long way in promoting gender equality from a young age,” Mr Burke said.
