A new, simplified reporting band structure for NAPLAN test results will be implemented this year but more will be needed to stop the misuse of data in school rankings.
NAPLAN will also be conducted entirely online this year and in March instead of May.
The new structure comes as various changes to the test have been introduced and implemented progressively over the last few years in an attempt to make the test fairer and more useful for teachers and families.
The earlier scheduling will allow results to be returned to schools earlier in the school year, when they are more useful in identifying students who may need extra support in the classroom.
