More workers eligible to convert to secure jobs

14 October, 2021

More workers are eligible to convert from casual to ongoing employment following legislative changes made in the wake of a union campaign for secure jobs.

Recent changes to the Fair Work Act mean employers (with more than 15 employees) are now required to consider eligible employees’ suitability for conversion to permanent part-time or permanent full-time work.

To be eligible, employees must have completed 12 months’ continuous employment, worked a regular pattern of hours over the preceding 6 months and be able to continue their hours as a permanent employee without significant changes.
