Members tell their stories ahead of World Teachers’ Day

12 October, 2022

Several long-standing IEU members are featured in this years’ World Teachers’ Day (QLD) campaign, sharing the moments they celebrate and inspire them as teachers.

Queensland will mark World Teachers’ Day on Friday, 28 October with the theme “Teaching through every moment”.

IEU Branch Secretary Terry Burke said it was fantastic to see the stories of IEU members highlighted.

“Two of the members featured, Barbara Dewis and Clare Gilliland, have made significant contributions to the teaching profession over their careers, including through union activism,” Mr Burke said.

“World Teachers’ Day is about celebrating the teaching profession and the difference we make as teachers to our students’ lives every day,” he said.

Teachers work to inspire students

Barbara Dewis said World Teachers’ Day is about recognising the work teachers do to inspire their students every day.

“Seeing the diversity of students in the classroom and listening to the stories they share are also highlights of my job.

Barbara continues to make significant contributions to the teaching profession through her union activism.
