Making AI work for the profession

The voice of the profession is central as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our schools.

IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke said education unions had a critical part to play as school communities and the teaching profession grappled with new AI technologies that have the potential to change the way we work overnight.

“While some education jurisdictions have banned the use of ChatGPT by students, this seems a knee-jerk reaction to a much more fundamental change to the way students learn and
are assessed,” he said.

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies have the potential to assist in reducing some of the workload crisis facing teachers if teachers have absolute control over decisions to use the technology.
