History made on IR law

5 December, 2022

In an historic moment for union members across the country, the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill is now law – allowing millions of working people to bargain for better wages, have greater equity at work, and start to tackle insecure work.

The Bill passed last week (2 December) with the support of the ALP, the Greens and crossbench Senator David Pocock.

The new law is a significant step towards fixing our broken bargaining system – providing millions of working people with greater access to bargaining.

While the full implementation of the Bill will take time, we can have hope that as a union we can now work on securing quality collective agreements which provide quality working conditions and contemporary wages for all members.

This is an historic day and one which will enable our union to continue to make a difference to the working lives and futures of IEU members.
