Australian union members have welcomed the Fair Work Commission’s (FWC) decision to support vulnerable workers by granting a record increase to the minimum wage.
The announcement of an 8.6% annual increase for those on minimum wage and a 5.75% increase for those employed under minimum award wages from 1 July 2023 will benefit more than 2.6 million Australian workers.
Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) Secretary Sally McManus said the union movement fought hard for these critical wage increases, which will help millions of working people stay afloat during the current cost-of-living crisis.
