The aged care and disability sectors need urgent support from the federal government through appropriate remuneration as well as better access to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and RATs (Rapid Antigen Tests), so that the essential services the sectors provide can continue and be delivered safely.
So far the federal government has failed when it comes to providing the action to properly resource the sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aged care sector continues to call for immediate action
Workers in the aged care sector continue to demand the federal government take immediate action to address the industry which has been in sustained crisis since before the pandemic began.
COVID-19 has only exacerbated the vulnerabilities within the sector – most of which could be fixed through government policy and regulations.
However, the Morrison federal government’s avoidance of responsibility and lack of planning has led to the country’s aged care system falling to the brink of collapse.
Residents are sick and dying and workers are exhausted and angry.
