On 28 April every year – International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) – we remember those who have been killed or injured at work.
Since the start of this year* 36 Australians have been killed at work – with the majority of deaths occurring in the transport, postal and warehousing industries.
IEU-QNT Branch Secretary Terry Burke said a single death at work was one too many.
“Every worker deserves to make it home,” he said.
“Yet sadly, we continue to see preventable deaths in Australian workplaces.”
