IEU Chapters in YMCA schools have secured equal pay increases for all staff despite an employer plan to only apply increases to teachers.
Members from YMCA campuses across Logan and Ipswich joined together to voice their concerns over the employer’s plan to apply a 4% annual wage increase to teachers but not to vocational employees.
Chapters held meetings and resolved to tell the employer that not paying comparable wage increases to some staff based on their job title was unacceptable.
With Chapter action afoot, the employer quickly notified staff that the 4% wage increase would also apply to vocational staff (in addition to a 3% cost of living payment that had previously been granted).
